I. Votaciones. Les recuerdo que las votaciones están abiertas para ratificar las mociones discutidas en la asamblea de la Asociación en Grand Rapids. Sólo deben acceder a http://ailcfh.echapters.com. Convocatoria para edición especial/ CALL FOR SPECIAL ISSUE PROPOSALS Letras Femeninas Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica The editor of Letras Femeninas welcomes proposals for the Summer 2014 Special Issue. Proposals should be sent by e-mail to Carmen de Urioste (carmen.urioste@asu.edu, carmen.urioste@me.com and letras@me.com). They should contain the following information: • Draft outlining the topic and content of the proposed special issue (up to 200 words); • Editorial Committee for the special issue. Proposed members of the editorial committee must have agreed to serve before the proposal is submitted and must be good standing AILCFH members. There should be enough reviewers to allow at least two reviews of each paper; • Name, telephone, and e-mail of the contact person; • Language: Spanish and/or English Due date to receive proposals: January 15, 2013 The proposals for the Special Issue will be evaluated by the AILCFH Executive Committee. A decision will be made by February 1, 2013. The Special Issue final materials must be submitted to Letras Femeninas by February 1, 2014. Technical details will be shared with the special editor upon approval of the proposal. Contributors to the Special Issue must be members of the AILCFH. The editor of Letras Femeninas reserves the right to reject Special Issue papers, should they be considered inappropriate for publication in the journal. Sede del Congreso 2014 La AILCFH hace un llamado para presentar propuestas de sede para el congreso del año 2014. La propuesta debe incluir sede institucional, elaboración del tema/enfoque intelectual del congreso, fondos, infraestructura y comité organizador. Según los estatutos de la AILCFH, los criterios evaluativos son los siguientes: 3.1.2. Criterio evaluativo de la sede de la conferencia 1) Compromiso de la institución: fondos para invitar a escritoras, salones, personal a cargo de la inscripción, comidas, etc 2) Infraestructura: hoteles, transporte (aeropuerto-hotel, hotel-sede de la conferencia). También considerar el efecto de otras conferencias similares anteriores/posteriores en la zona circundante, ej. LASA, MLA, etc. La conferencia no debe coincidir con otras conferencias profesionales; 3) La conferencia facilitará información sobre servicio de guardería particular a sus participantes, sin responsabilidad por parte de AILCFH. En caso de superávit de fondos se asignará un 20% para dar becas que posibiliten la asistencia a los congresos de escritoras latinoamericanas, españolas e hispanas en los E.E.U.U. El/la organizador/a de la conferencia debe preparar un informe justificativo de los gastos a cargo de los fondos recibidos. Call for papers REVISTA LIBERIA - CALL FOR PAPERS DEADLINE: January 15th SUBMISSIONS: http://www.revistaliberia.org Revista Liberia will be publishing its first issue in May 2013. Our first issue aims to discuss the intertwining discourses of history and literature. We would like to explore how Cultural Studies and Cultural History merge and diverge: how recent academic cultural research seems to be closely linked to the ideology of postmodernism and its conceptualization of “history” -from its thesis of the end of history to its apparent disregard for the historical dimension of cultural phenomena. The University of Texas at Austin Center for Women’s and Gender Studies is seeking an Associate Director The Associate Director supports the Director in shaping the vision, identity, and programming of the Center. As Associate Director, the successful candidate will participate in and co-coordinate strategic planning as well as sustain relationships with students, faculty, administration, and community members. The Associate Director also serves as the Graduate Advisor and Project Manager for the Center. As Graduate Advisor, the successful candidate will work with the Graduate Coordinator to create a positive community and envision new resources for students. The Associate Director will generate programming, orientations, and regular workshops to support graduate students in the CWGS MA program as well as advise all CWGS MA students prior to fall and spring registration. Feministas Panel From the Conquest narratives of the New World and Spanish Inquisition testimonies to the ravages of the Spanish Civil War, ETA and, more recently, the March 3rd, 2004 train bombings in Madrid, Spain has struggled with the problem of terrorism. Likewise, Latin America and the Caribbean have seen their share of terrorist activities as dictators and factions as diverse as the FARC and Sendero Luminoso have unleashed their vitriol on citizens. In this panel, we seek to engage the language of violence/terrorism in its diverse forms as it has manifested itself in the works of women writers, film makers and visual artists of the Spanish-speaking and U.S. Latina worlds. We invite proposals for twenty-minute papers from scholars whose work focuses on questions such as: What is terrorism? How is terrorism related to exile? How is violence/terrorism related to women's experience/women's creativity/woman's (in)visibility? To what extent is the rhetoric of a “war on terror” or “horror” gendered and how has this rhetoric changed over time from a feminist perspective? How has “terror” manifested itself, or conversely, remained invisible, in Spanish language literature, film and visual culture by women? From a feminist perspective, what draws the reader’s attention to the “spectacle” of terror? What ethical or moral responsibilities do women have to teach materials to students of Spanish and to what ends? New PhD Program at the University of Texas at Austin Dear Colleagues, Beginning in Fall 2013, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas at Austin will offer a 5-year PhD program in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures.http://www.utexas.edu/cola/depts/spanish/graduate-program/PhD/PhD.php The program includes three major areas of study: Latin American Literatures and Cultures; Literatures and Cultures in Portuguese and Spanish; and Iberian and Latin American Linguistics. These tracks seek to address important themes, including the cultural and linguistic diversity in Latin American, Iberian, Latino, trans-Atlantic, and trans-Pacific worlds, as well as the impact of the ensuing and continued contact among indigenous people, Africans, and Europeans as aresult of conquest, slavery, displacement, and immigration. At the same time, our program addresses the implications of new media and methodologies of thinking, learning, and teaching in contemporary environments marked by new technologies of language and representation. These flows, encounters, and intersections shape the research and teaching of our faculty, resulting in a graduate program that is highly intersectional, interdisciplinary, and intercultural, as well as transnational and hemispheric. The Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures track addresses the broad range of linguistic and cultural contacts that currently comprise our field. This track allows students to complete their primary coursework in Portuguese or Spanish, and then choose a second specialization in the literature and culture in a language that is not Spanish or Portuguese. This could be Nahuatl, French, Arabic, German, Maya K'iche, Chinese, Amazonian languages, African languages, etc. The Literatures and Cultures in Portuguese and Spanish track, while also addressing a range of linguistic and cultural contacts, allows students to complete their primary coursework in Portuguese or Spanish, and then choose either Spanish or Portuguese as the language of their second specialization. This track is designed to bridge the traditional divide between Brazil and Spanish America, and between Portugal and Spain. In the third track, Iberian and Latin American Linguistics, students pursue coursework in areas that bridge theoretical and applied approaches in the study of the structural and meaning-bearing properties of standardized and local languages, the sociolinguistics of the Ibero-American world, the development of second languages in natural and academic settings, and the qualitative and quantitative analysis of speech samples collected in the field and in the laboratory. This training is supported and augmented by coursework in the core linguistic areas of phonology and syntax as well as in the research methods of phonetics, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics, and anthropological linguistics through the offerings in graduate programs in this and allied departments, including Linguistics, French and Italian, Curriculum and Instruction, Psychology, Communication, Anthropology, and Latin American Studies.
