Colegas,

Quiero recordar a quienes vayan a participar en el XVIII Congreso de la AILCFH en Agnes College que no dejéis de asistir a la asamblea general de la Asociación que tendrá lugar el sábado 18 de octubre a las 12:30 durante el almuerzo. Durante la Asamble se discutirán las mociones presentadas por el ejecutivo para ser ratificadas por la Asamble. Adjunto a este mesaje puede encontrat un documento en pdf con los informes individuales del ejecutivo y el texto de las mociones.

En la anterior Circular envié un documento con las normas de colaboración de la enciclopedia de escritoras latinoamericanas, pero al parecer llegó en blanco. Ya que se trata de un documento bien extenso, lo he incluido en la sección de COLABORACIONES de Grafemas para que las personas interesadas lo puedan consultar allí. http://grafemas.org

1) PREMIOS: FEMINISTAS UNIDAS ESSAY PRIZE
The Executive Committee of Feministas Unidas, an allied organization of the MLA, is pleased to announce a call for papers for the Seventh Annual Feministas Unidas Essay Prize competition for graduate students. The Feministas Unidas Essay Prize is awarded for an outstanding unpublished essay on feminist scholarship on women in the field of literature, the arts, filmmaking, Transatlantic studies or cultural studies in the areas covered by our organization’s mission: Spanish, Spanish-American, Luso-Brazilian, Afro-Latin American, and U.S. Hispanic Studies.

The purpose of the essay prize is to promote feminist scholarship by those who are entering our profession and are currently graduate students. The prize is the product of collaboration between Feministas Unidas and the Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica (AILCFH). The selection committee is drawn from officers and members of Feministas Unidas and the editorial board of Letras Femeninas. Feministas Unidas reserves the right not to award the prize in a given year.

AWARD: $250 and publication of the essay in the December issue of the journal Letras Femeninas* The author of the winning essay must be a member of the Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica (AILCFH) at the time of publication of the essay.
* Winning essay will receive corresponding editorial comments from competition readers as well as from Letras Femeninas Editors. Essays will be published one year after acceptance.

ELIGIBILITY: Graduate students who are current or new members of Feministas Unidas are eligible to submit their original research for the prize.

GUIDELINES:
• An unpublished paper
• Length: 18-25 pages, double-spaced, including notes and works cited
• Format: MLA style. Prepare the manuscript according to instructions for “Anonymous Submissions”
• Languages: Spanish or English
• Deadline for submission: November 15, 2008
• Announcement of award: December 5, 2008

• Essay
• 200-word abstract of the essay
• Author’s c.v.
• Submit all materials in the following way: one hard copy and as an e-mail attachment. Please submit essays without names and add a cover page with the title of your work, your name and institutional affiliation. This will help us ensure adequate refereed procedures.

1) Coloquio Internacional: Así hablan y así escriben las mujeres
Instituto de Lengua y Literaturas Hispánicas. Universidad de Berna. 11-13 de junio, 2009.

El Colóquio contará con la participación de las escritoras Carmen Boullosa (México) y Diamela Eltit (Chile). Habrá además conferencias plenarias a cargo de: Esther Forgas Berdet (Universidad Rovira i Vigili, Tarragona), Álvaro García Mesenguer (CSIC) y Pilar Gracía Mounton (CSIC).

PUESTOS DE TRABAJO ---------------------------------
1) Western Kentucky University. Head, Department of Modern Languages

APPOINTMENT: 12-month position, beginning July 1, 2009. Tenure, rank and salary are dependent on qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS: earned Ph.D.; distinguished record in teaching and scholarship in one of the disciplines represented in the department; ability to provide vision and creative leadership to advance the department’s educational mission; ability to promote the diverse talents of faculty to build on department’s strengths; demonstrated interest in maintaining and strengthening connections between department and other campus and public school constituencies; knowledge of language pedagogy and the use of technology in language instruction.

THE UNIVERSITY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF MODERN LANGUAGES: Western Kentucky University is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city with a population of 63,000, approximately 110 miles south of Louisville and 65 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. Over 19,000 students attend Western pursuing programs leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees in arts and sciences, education, government services, business, industry, health, agriculture and similar fields. The Department of Modern Languages offers to over 125 majors those programs leading to the bachelor’s degree in French, German and Spanish, as well as the Master of Arts in Education degree in French and Spanish. WKU has a general education requirement in languages for all students (two-semester proficiency). The Department consists of fourteen full-time faculty members who represent academic expertise in a wide variety of areas. In addition to the majors and minors listed above, courses in Chinese and Japanese are offered. The Department has a state-of-the-art Media Center, and all classes are taught in smart classrooms.

INTERNATIONALIZATION: The department plays a significant role in the university's push for internationalization. Many faculty design their own programs or teach in those offered through Western’s membership in a study abroad consortium, thus offering students opportunities to enhance their coursework and deepen their linguistic skills in a number of locations.
