ANUNCIOS ----------------- 1) Petición de ayuda para Letras Peninsulares Dear colleagues: I am writing to ask that you help prevent Letras Peninsulares from becoming another gloomy statistic in these difficult economic times. It happens that Davidson College, which for fourteen years has generously lent its support to the life of this important journal, can no longer do so. Dr. May S. Vásquez, Joel O. Conarroe professor of Spanish, founder and editor of Letras Peninsulares, has been told that the College is simply unable to continue its support at this time. Naturally, there are extant articles and book reviews that have been approved by Letras Peninsulares’ editorial board which have not yet been published, as well as monographic issues on Spanish film and on the representation of the Holocaust in Peninsular literature and film. It would be devastating to the authors of those articles if they now were not published, but worse still if they now were not published in this particular journal—a standard bearer in the profession. All of us who use material from Letras Peninsulares in our own research and teaching would also miss the journal greatly. I ask that you write a check, made out to Davidson College (which has certified in writing that any contributions received will go solely to the journal). The College will send a receipt indicating tax deductibility beyond the cost of a subscription ($24). If you elect to send a check, and no subscription is desired, please so indicate. This help to supplement subscription income would be a vital help in ensuring the journal's ongoing life. Davidson College has affirmed the value and contributions of Letras Peninsulares and has graciously agreed to assist as possible once additional help is found. So that the journal may continue to bring us the best quality literary criticism for many years to come, I personally plan to donate $100 and I ask that you send what you can, as well. Let us save this journal together. Best wishes for a happy, healthy 2009-2010 academic year, Veronica Dean-Thacker Professor of Spanish vdeanthacker@transy.edu Please send checks to: Dr. Mary S. Vásquez, Editor Letras Peninsulares Department of Spanish Davidson College Davidson, NC 28035 COLABORACIONES --------------------- 1) The journal, THE GLOBAL SOUTH, is preparing a special issue on Latin America and globalization. The deadline has just past and they did not receive the response they wanted from the original call, so they have extended the deadline until January. Please send inquiries regarding submitting an article to the editor, Adetayo Alabi at aalabi@olemiss.edu. The Global South is an interdisciplinary journal that focuses on how world literatures and cultures respond to globalization. Its premise is that the various Souths—from the North American South to the European South, Latin and Central America, Africa, Asia, and Australia—share comparable experiences that differentiate them from mainstream and hegemonic cultures in their locations. Since many of these Souths share not necessarily a common wealth, but various issues of marginalization and inadequate access to means of production and amenities under globalization, TGS is concerned with the intersections among their experiences.
