Premios Victoria Urbano Les recordamos que hemos extendido la fecha límite para nominaciones y envíos de manuscritos para el premio Victoria Urbano de ensayo y creación hasta el 15 de junio del 2012. Convocatorias/ Call for Papers 1. THE DEPARTMENT OF MODERN LANGUAGES AND LITERATURES’ GRADUATE STUDENT CONFERENCE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI October 19-20, 2012. “Cyberaesthetics” and Narrative Call for papers for the University of Miami 2012 Graduate Student Conference, “Cyberaesthetics” and Narrative, which will take place October 19-20, 2012. The deadline for submission of abstracts is August 7, 2012. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Giselle Beiguelman and the conference has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/cyberaesteticsandnarratives/ With its growing reach and its consolidation as a medium that facilitates extensive interactions and interventions, cyberspace has become a platform for the aesthetic production of hybrid discourses and different forms of narratives. By enabling economic, social and cultural interactions, digital media provide apparently limitless possibilities for human creativity, cultural production and, potentially, for political agency. However, increased reliability on “new media” also demands that scholars, artists and activists pose important questions about the ways in which information and knowledge are acquired, produced, disseminated and accessed. This conference invites participants to reflect critically on and share experiences about the impact of cyberaesthetics on human creativity, cultural production, agency and aesthetic criticism. Also, the conference intends to promote debates around cyberaesthetics as a possible force for the relativization of hierarchies and proliferation of rhizomatic instances of legitimization. We welcome papers on a wide range of interdisciplinary topics, including but not limited to the following: - The impact of the cyberspace in Literature, Literary Criticism, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. - The uses of new media, such as e-books, blogging, social networks, digital libraries, hypertext, podcasts, webumentaries, among others in the construction of new narrative forms. - Aesthetic questions posed by cyberspace in relation to new forms of storytelling and expression, simulation, re-imagining the self, re-reading canons, literary, cinematic and art genres. - Theoretical debates on digital authorship and publishing, digital literature, digital film and digital arts as new forms of cultural production. - Cyberaesthetics as a space for redefined agency (cultural, political, social and other forms), i.e.: the Arab Spring and other forms of rebellions orchestrated via social media. - (Un)limited access to information, content sharing, sampling, remixing, copyright, public and private information domains. - Digital Media, Gender, Biopower and Technologies of the Body. - Cyberspace as a (Non) Cultural Space/ (Non) Place / Heterotopy/ Utopia/ Post-Nation. We invite 250-words proposals for 20-minute presentations that may be given in English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese. Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) 4th Annual Convention March 21-24, 2013 Boston, Massachusetts Host Institution: Tufts University Global Spaces of Modernity: Latin Americans at Home and in Displacement This panel analyzes a wide range of cultural productions by citizens in Latin America, by Latin@s in the United States, and/or by Latin Americans displaced onto other first world countries, which render evidence of the different ways in which they experience and re-elaborate the notion of ‘modernity’ in societal mainstream spaces (cities, cyberspace, modified geographies and landscapes) during the current climax of neoliberal policies, or the globalization era. The 44th annual event will be held in historic Boston, Massachusetts, a city known for its national and maritime history, academic facilities and collections, vibrant art, theatre, and food scenes, and blend of architecture. The Convention, located centrally near Boston Commons and the Theatre District at the Hyatt Regency, will include keynote and guest speakers, literary readings, film screenings, tours and workshops. Interested participants may submit abstracts to more than one NeMLA session; however, panelists can only present one paper (panel or seminar). Se propone un debate que analice un amplio espectro de posibilidades alejadas de la religiosidad al uso. Las presentaciones abordaran el estudio de discursos que plasmen posturas como el laicismo, el librepensamiento, el anticlericalismo, el ateísmo, la masonería o el espiritismo. Resulta crucial para el éxito de esta mesa redonda que se incluya una perspectiva de género y se analicen propuestas alternativas o transgresoras de espiritualidad femenina en este período.
