| Circular 10.2 octubre 2009 AILCFH Colegas, La ratificación de las mociones presentadas durante la última junta general de la ALCFH está en marcha. Como indiqué en el último mensaje sobre este asunto, tenemos hasta el 20 de noviembre para emitir nuestro voto. Os animo a votar para que no “decidan por ti”, como decía la canción de los 70 de Vino Tinto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oLOLolL4lI). Y bueno, aquí os mando un mensaje de nuestra presidenta junto con varias convocatorias de premios (Victoria Urbano y Feministas Unidas), congresos (XX Congreso de la AILCFH en Austin, Texas), colaboraciones (número especial de verano 2011 de Letras Femeninas), nuevos libros (Iraida H. López) y puestos de trabajo (Davidson College). Abrazos, Inma Pertusa Ex-Secretaria todavía en funciones ANUNCIOS ==================================== 1) Mensaje de la Presidenta de AILCFH, Tina Escaja: Estimada membresía: Envío un entrañable saludo desde un otoño espléndido en Vermont. Confío en que el semestre académico esté resultando provechoso o llevadero a lo sumo. Sin duda quienes tuvimos la oportunidad de ir a Quito pudimos disfrutar de un encuentro que enriqueció nuestra visión tanto académica como personal. Fue un placer la oportunidad para la conversación y el aprendizaje, así como para el planteamiento de nuevas propuestas ligadas también a la misión de nuestra asociación en el nuevo milenio. En este sentido, vuelvo a invitar a toda la membresía a un debate abierto a través de propuestas para el replanteamiento de nuestro acrónimo. Sé que la empresa no es fácil, pero resultará sin duda en una creativa reflexión sobre nuestros objetivos como grupo. Entre las sugerencias que apunté en la asamblea de Quito y en mis actas últimas se encuentra la reconsideración del término “femenina” en favor de opciones más inclusivas como “género.” Para facilitar el proceso, he acordado con el ejecutivo designar una comisión que se encargue de hacer una selección de nombres que será presentada a la asamblea en nuestro próximo congreso en Austin, Texas (octubre 2010). Una vez aprobado un nombre como moción, se procederá a la votación posterior. De aceptarse la modificación del nombre, a la autora o autor del acrónimo seleccionado se le concederá como “premio” la exoneración del pago de un año de membresía. Así que procedo a hacer una llamamiento a toda la membresía a que presente nombres/acrónimos alternativos al presente. Proposals should be sent by e-mail to Carmen de Urioste (carmen.urioste@asu.edu). They should contain the following information: -Draft outlining the topic and content of the proposed special issue (up to 200 words); -Editorial Committee for the special issue. Proposed members of the editorial committee must have agreed to serve before the proposal is submitted and must be good standing AILCFH members. There should be enough reviewers to allow at least two reviews of each paper; -Name, telephone, and e-mail of the contact person; -Language: Spanish and/or English Due date to receive proposals: January 15, 2010 The proposals for the Special Issue will be evaluated by the AILCFH Executive Committee. A decision will be made by February 1, 2010. The Special Issue final materials must be submitted to Letras Femeninas by February 1, 2011. Technical details will be shared with the special editor upon approval of the proposal. Contributors to the Special Issue must be members of the AILCFH. The Executive Committee of Feministas Unidas, an allied organization of the MLA, is pleased to announce a call for papers for the Seventh Annual Feministas Unidas Essay Prize competition for graduate students. The Feministas Unidas Essay Prize is awarded for an outstanding unpublished essay on feminist scholarship on women in the field of literature, the arts, filmmaking, Transatlantic studies or cultural studies in the areas covered by our organization’s mission: Spanish, Spanish-American, Luso-Brazilian, Afro-Latin American, and U.S. Hispanic Studies. The purpose of the essay prize is to promote feminist scholarship by those who are entering our profession and are currently graduate students. The prize is the product of collaboration between Feministas Unidas and the Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica (AILCFH). The selection committee is drawn from officers and members of Feministas Unidas and the editorial board of Letras Femeninas. Feministas Unidas reserves the right not to award the prize in a given year. Award: $250 and publication of the essay in the December issue of the journal Letras Femeninas* The author of the winning essay must be a member of the Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica (AILCFH) at the time of publication of the essay. López , prólogo. El viejo, el asesino, yo y otros cuentos reúne nueve cuentos y un testimonio de Ena Lucía Portela, una de las escritoras cubanas más destacadas. Portela nació el 19 de diciembre de 1972, en La Habana, Cuba, donde reside hasta hoy. Es autora de las novelas _El pájaro: pincel y tinta china (1999)_, _La sombra del caminante_ (2001), _Cien botellas en una pared_ (2002), que obtuvo ese mismo año el Premio Jaén de Novela que otorga la Caja de Ahorros de Granada, España, y en 2003 el Prix Littéraire Deux Océans – Grinzane Cavour que concede la crítica francesa, y _Djuna y Daniel_ (2008), que recibió el Premio de la Crítica en su país; y también de los volúmenes de cuentos _Una extraña entre las piedras_ (1999) y _Alguna enfermedad muy grave_ (2006). Colabora ocasionalmente con el periódico _El País_ de España, y con varias revistas. Textos suyos han aparecido en numerosas antologías de cuento y de ensayo, tanto en Cuba como en el extranjero. Publicada en nueve idiomas y en más de una veintena de países, fue seleccionada en mayo de 2007 como uno de los 39 escritores menores de 39 años más importantes de América Latina. Los textos incluidos en la presente compilación, la primera que aparece de los cuentos de Portela, fueron publicados previamente en dos colecciones y algunas revistas, todos ellos dados a conocer entre 1993 y 2008. El volumen cierra con un testimonio, «Alas rotas», publicado por primera vez en 2008. Un cortometraje basado en su cuento «El viejo, el asesino y yo», ganador en 1999 del Premio Juan Rulfo de Radio Francia Internacional, y que da título a esta compilación, será presentado próximamente en el Festival de Cine Pobre, de Gibara, Cuba. Aparte de ser muy amenos, los cuentos antologados aportan claves para el conocimiento y disfrute del conjunto de su obra. El norte de la obra de Portela es la literatura, alrededor de la cual giran algunos de los textos. Hay numerosas alusiones a libros y autores de todas las épocas, a las artes plásticas, al cine y a la música. Se trata de una literatura culta, pero accesible; seria y lúdica a la vez. La Cuba de hoy aparece como telón de fondo en la narrativa, mas no de una manera burda o panfletaria. Aun la crítica se pone al servicio de la intención literaria. El prólogo de Iraida H. López ofrece un panorama de la narrativa breve en Cuba desde 1959, deteniéndose en la generación de los noventa. Esboza también no sólo los temas recurrentes en los cuentos de la antología, sino algunas de las estrategias utilizadas por la autora para perseguir sus propósitos. Los cuentos llevan doscientas notas a pie de página, en cuya redacción colaboraron López y Portela. Las notas combinan el comentario académico con el personal. Two-year position Spanish department The Spanish Department at Davidson College is pleased to announce a two-year Andrew W. Mellon Post-doctoral fellowship beginning in fall 2010. Davidson is strongly committed to achieving excellence through diversity. Therefore, we seek a scholar who can enhance and broaden our offerings in an under-represented field in our department, such as Afro-Hispanic Literature and Culture, Studies in Latin American/Latino Popular and/or Visual Cultures, Post Colonial and Globalization Studies, Ethnic, Gender, and/or Queer Studies, Andean Studies. Native/near native proficiency in Spanish and English is required. Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship as well as a solid commitment to undergraduate education is essential. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to pursue her or his own research while being mentored by a member of the Spanish Department. We seek to nourish a scholar early in his or her career. The individual will teach in the Spanish Department a reduced load of one course each semester. Applicants will have completed their Ph.D requirements; at most, they may be considered if defending their dissertations in the fall of their first fellowship year.
