	Estimada membresía, Adjunto os envío los anuncios que han llegado desde la última circular. Os recuerdo que la membresía de la AILCFH venció el primero de enero. Para poder agilizar el proceso de actualización de datos, así como para aseguraros la recepción de los dos ejemplares anuales de la revista, os recuerdo que el plazo para renovar la membresía, sin incurrir en la penalización de $10, se vence el 15 de marzo. Así pues os animo a renovarla ahora mismo accediendo a la sección de pago de la membresía en nuestro sitio de la AILCFH (http://ailcfh.org). Como cada año, os pedimos que hagáis el pago por medio del sistema on-line usando una tarjeta de crédito en lugar de enviar un cheque a Marta Sierra. Este último método de pago ocasiona mucho más trabajo a la Tesorera. Para cualquier pregunta o problema relacionado con el pago de la membresía favor de dirijiros directamente a la tesorera, Marta Sierra, sierram@kenyon.edu. No olvideis que el plazo para recibir propuestas para el próximo congreso de la Asociación, a celebrarse en Barcelona el próximo mes de octubre, está ya abierto y que podeis enviar las propuestas, así como cualquier pregunta o problema relacionado con el envío de las mismas, a las organizadoras del congreso escribiendo a la siguiente dirección de email: cdona@ub.edu. Podeis acceder a la información sobre el congreso así como al "call for papers" a través de la página de la Asociación. Por último indicaros que una vez cerrado el plazo para recibir candidaturas para los diferentes puestos del ejecutivo llegue el momento de emitir vuestro voto. Mañana se abre el periodo de votación, que durará hasta el 17 de marzo. Para poder votar debeis tener estatus de miembras/os activos lo cual quiere decir que necesitais estar al día en el pago de la cuota de membresía. Estimados/as reseñadores: Ponemos a su disposición una lista actualizada de títulos recientemente recibidos y disponibles para reseñar en nuestros próximos números. Para recibir el libro, por favor, envíenos un mensaje indicando el título elegido a niebcast007@gmail.com, con su dirección postal y se lo haremos llegar a la mayor brevedad posible. La fecha límite que hemos puesto para recibir las reseñas es el 1 de mayo de 2011. Como siempre, solamente entregaremos un título por reseñador. Se distribuirán los textos según el orden de llegada de los pedidos y se dará preferencia a aquellos reseñadores que no hayan recibido textos en las últimas circulares. Por otro lado, agradecemos a quellos/as autores que nos han hecho llegar copias de sus textos publicados para que sean reseñados en próximos números e invitamos a quienes no lo hayan hecho todavía a que nos contacten para coordinar el envío. De la misma manera, de existir interés en reseñar un título reciente que no anunciamos en la lista, por favor, hágannos saber los datos para poder pedirlo a la editorial. MLA Special Session: You Will Know Them By Their Shoes: Footwear in the Textual & Visual Productions of the Early Modern Hispanic World Organized by Sara V. Guengerich (Texas Tech University) and Noelia Cirnigliaro (Dartmouth College) Footwear has long been the source of inspiration, disapproval, mockery and fascination in the textual and visual production of the early modern Hispanic world. Wearing clogs or chopines, as they were called from medieval times, symbolized the transition from adolescence to womanhood. With these shoes, women could literally raise themselves from the ground adding in many cases eight or ten inches to their height. Others such as the footbinding shoes, sent from China to Europe and Colonial Spanish America, were considered commodities, as small feet were a sign of prestige. Light shoes such as sandals or slippers enticed the male gaze as expressed in several textual and visual works of this period. Shoes also carried an economic symbolism as they often appear in dowry records as well as in wills and testaments. Focusing on the textual and visual representations of shoes, this session seeks proposals that explore the connections of footwear with the socio-political environment, the cultural practices of this period, the fashion trends and the regional differences in Spain and Spanish America. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: - The intersections between literary, visual and historical representations of shoes - The connection between the fashion of shoes and the construction of the social self - The implications of shoes as tropes, topoi, conceits, symbols, icons and emblems in visual and textual representations - The theme of shoes in folklore and popular culture - The erotics of feet and shoes as they enkindle male desire - The production and counter-production of movement of the female body by means of their shoes - The agency of footwearing and shoemaking Submit an electronic file with a 250-word abstract as an e-mail attachment to sara.guengerich@ttu.edu or noelia.cirnigliaro@dartmouth.edu. Seattle, 5-8 January 2012 Digital Humanities and Hispanism - An Electronic Roundtable Electronic round-table showcasing different ways digital media and tools inform teaching, scholarship, publication, and collaboration within Hispanism. Each of 8 panelists will offer a five-minute demonstration of their digital project emphasizing how the medium has changed the way they approach their work. During the remaining 30 minutes, the audience will circulate around the panelists’ stations to ask individual questions and get a closer look at the projects. Representation from Peninsularists, Latinamericanists, and specialists in US Latino is anticipated. Must be member of MLA by April 1, 2011.
