| Estimada membresía, ¡Feliz Primavera! Adjunto algunos anuncios de importancia: 1. Propuesta de sede del XXXIII Congreso de la AILCFH, 2013. La Junta directiva de la AILCFH está recibiendo propuestas para la sede del Congreso de la asociación del año 2013. La propuesta debe contener el comité organizador y la sede institucional. Se aceptan propuestas hasta el 15 de abril. 2. Convocatoria Congreso AILCFH 2012 Recuerden enviar su propuesta para el XXII Congreso de la AILCFH, “Entre la tierra y el ciberespacio”, Grand Valley University, Noviembre 8-10, 2012. Mensaje de Dianna Niebylski, editora de reseñas: Estimad@s reseñadores: Ponemos a su disposición una lista actualizada de títulos recientemente recibidos y disponibles para reseñar en nuestros próximos números. Para recibir el libro, por favor, envíenos un mensaje indicando el título elegido a niebcast007@gmail.com, con su dirección postal y se lo haremos llegar a la mayor brevedad posible. En esta oportunidad la fecha límite que hemos puesto para recibir las reseñas es el 15 de agosto de 2012 para ser incluidas en el siguiente número. Les pedimos que tomen en consideración la fecha al solicitar los textos. Si desean enviar la reseña en una fecha posterior para otro número por favor inclúyalo en su solicitud. Envíen las reseñas a la misma dirección de correo. Como siempre, solamente entregaremos un título por reseñad@r. Se distribuirán los textos según el orden de llegada de los pedidos y se dará preferencia a aquell@s reseñadores que no hayan recibido textos en la última circular. Por otro lado, agradecemos a aquell@s autor@s que nos han hecho llegar copias de sus textos publicados para que sean reseñados en próximos números e invitamos a quienes no lo hayan hecho todavía a que nos contacten para coordinar el envío. Simposio y Revista sobre Mujeres Viajeras Americas Society está organizando un simposio sobre mujeres viajeras en Latinoamerica, a proposito del lanzamiento del número 84 de su revista Review, sobre el mismo tema: Women Travelers Symposium: Launch of Review 84 Friday, May 18, 2012, 7:00 p.m. Americas Society 680 Park Avenue New York, NY This launch of the women travelers in Latin America issue of the Society’s acclaimed journal will feature comments by editor Daniel Shapiro and guest editor Adriana Méndez Rodenas. The event will feature readings by authors Carlos Franz, Pola Oloixarac, and Michael Schuessler, and translator Jessica Ernst Powell, who will read from their respective texts in Review 84. The speakers will touch on historical figures, travel in the Americas, and the notion of the sublime. The launch will include commentary by special guest Hilda Benítez, who will speak about the novel Woman in Battle Dress, by her late husband, Cuban author Antonio Benítez Rojo. This launch will be conducted in English and Spanish. Copies of Review 84 will be available for sale at the launch. The symposium will open on May 16 with a panel discussion on four pioneering women travelers with scholars Claire Emille Martin, Vanesa Miseres, Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert, Adela Pineda Franco, moderated by Méndez Rodenas. The symposium will continue on May 17 with a keynote address by Méndez Rodenas. Review 84, guest-edited by Méndez Rodenas, covers seminal women travelers in Latin America such as Flora Tristan, the French-Peruvian writer and social activist, as well as contemporary writers who address the theme of travel. Scholarly contributions include essays by critics on Tristan; on writer, artist, and ecologist Maria Sibylla Merian, who traveled to Suriname in 1699 to research and document insects and flora; on Victorian Scotswoman Lady Florence Dixie, who wrote about her adventures in Patagonia; and on Countess Paula Kollonitz, the lady-in-waiting to Empress Carlota, during Maximilian’s ill-fated reign in Mexico. The essays are complemented by illuminating texts by the travelers themselves. Other contributions include fiction by modern and contemporary writers, including the late Antonio Benítez-Rojo, Argentine novelist Pola Oloixarac, Mexico-based U.S. author Michael Schuessler, and Chilean writer Carlos Franz. The issue also features an essay by art critic Alicia Lubowski on the influence of Humboldt on women traveler-artists and includes reviews of new titles in translation by Latin American and Caribbean writers. Submissions for Border-Lines Research Journal. On behalf of the Latino Research Center at the University of Nevada, Reno I am sending a reminder about the upcoming deadline for Volume VI of Border-Lines Research Journal.
